"We recently worked with HEM on a project that included designing a new extension, reconfiguring our downstairs layout for better space use, and developing a comprehensive retrofit strategy. "Worked with HEM architects on a retrofit of a house from the ~1980s. Things went smoothly and they suggested a very good building team (edited: Walker Build Ltd). Very professional, helpful and pragmatic. It was easy to discuss ideas and boundary conditions of the build. Would recommend. The goals of the retrofit were reached in terms of energy savings. (edited by adding the following text in response to the request from HEM): The works undertaken were: - draft proofing, attic insulation, cavity insulation and outside wall insulation (15 cm), installation of triple glazed windows. - Installation of a heat recovery ventilation system - Moving of a door+additional window (this was to better use the space) It looks like we have been able to reduce our gas consumption by at least 50% (though that will need to wait probably until May to know exactly). Note: We did not change our average house temperature (~19 degr Celsius) and also exchanged out gas stove for an induction stove (so had a small increase in electricity consumption). The air is always very fresh and the humidity on a much smaller level than before."
